Wedding Invitations: Justin & Ashley (2010)

May 29, 2010

I had the idea to make a wedding invitation that folded out into a poster for a while and then two things happened. I purchased some amazing 40-line wood type (6.75″ tall for the non-printers out there) and my best friends Justin and Ashley started planning their wedding. All hand set using wood type from my collection and some lead type from Montserrat College of Art’s shop. The poster is 18.75″ x 25″ on 50 lb text weight paper (so it wasn’t too bulky when folded) and folds down to be mailed. Nestled inside are a RSVP postcard and a card with directions to the event.

Wedding Invitations: Heather & Joseph (2009)

Heather and Joseph wanted to incorporate their trans-pacific courtship into the design of their invitation. They suggested the theme of a 1930′s era ocean liner ticket. This is what I came up with; complete with a luggage tag RSVP postcard and perforation on the ticket. The hand-writing is my own: written out, scanned into the computer, and compiled in photoshop. Mailed in #12 oversize business envelopes. Letterpress printed using photo-polymer plates.

Designed as a library book with dust jacket (complete with blurbs on the back), blind debossed cover and “circulation record” RSVP postcard with custom sleeve. Letterpress printed using hand-set lead type and magnesium cuts for the illustrations. Sewn as a pamphlet and glued into a folded card stock cover. Mailed in manilla envelopes with custom rubber stamp return address.
